About The Initiative

Discover the untold stories of Negro Creek, a once-thriving Black settlement whose history has been obscured by time. Led by the Direct Descendants and Community Friends of Negro Creek, our grassroots initiative is dedicated to preserving and commemorating the enduring legacy of our ancestors.

Direct Descendants & Community Friends

Empowered by a legacy of resilience and determination, the Direct Descendants and Community Friends of Negro Creek embark on a transformative journey to honor and reclaim the forgotten narratives of our ancestors. Through meticulous curation and dedication, we have assembled a digital archive that serves as a beacon of remembrance, preserving the rich heritage of the once-thriving Black settlement at Negro Creek.

Our mission is twofold: to illuminate the obscured history of Negro Creek and to erect a lasting testament to the enduring spirit of its early Black settlers. With unwavering commitment, we strive to raise the necessary funds for a stone monument, a solemn symbol of recognition and reverence for those who shaped our community's past.

In collaboration with the Township of Chatsworth and the Sheffield Park Black History and Culture Museum, we forge alliances rooted in shared purpose and mutual respect. Together, we harness the collective power of grassroots activism and institutional support to realize our vision of commemoration and empowerment.

As stewards of our heritage, we pledge to uphold the dignity of our ancestors, ensuring that their stories are not just remembered, but celebrated. Through our actions, we honor their enduring legacy and inspire future generations to embrace the transformative power of remembrance and solidarity.

Join us as we honor the past, illuminate the present, and pave the way for a more inclusive and equitable future for all.
